The 2016 Match was held in superb autumn conditions at the excellent Kings Norton Golf Club on Thursday 20th & Friday 21st October 2016.

The Officials match held on Thursday resulted in an excellent 4 v 1 victory to the SWCGA

David Walker (Wiltshire) & John White (Dorset) won 3 & 2 against David Price & Roger Poole

Geoff Green (Sec/Treas) & Gordon Clarke (Capt at Kings Norton) won 3 & 1 v Neil Harris & Terry Horobin

Ian Watkins (Gloucestershire) & Derek Hanson (Somerset) on 2 & 1 v Tony Broadhurst & Peter Turner

David Lock & Phil Hodges (Wiltshire) halved with Martin Payne & Brian Morris

The Midland Golf Union versus the SWCGA

The match, played on Friday 21st October was a very closely contested match

The morning Foursomes resulted in a narrow victory for the Midlands by three matched to two

Jack Gaunt & Ryan Brooks lost 1 Down to Jake Burnage & Tom Trowbridge

George Bloor & Liam Phipps won 4 & 3 against Joe Long & Mitch Waite

James Reeson & Martin Andersen defeated Sam Fernley & Harry Mitchell by 3 & 1

James Robinson & Richard Sadler defeated Chris Fleming & Rob MacGregor by 2 & 1

Matthew Hogg & Henry Young-Alls lost 3 & 2 versus Ben Amor  & Jack Charman

This result left the afternoon singles matches very much in the balance and set up an enthralling afternoon's golf.

George Bloor lost 3 & 2 to Jake Burnage

Ryan Brooks defeated Joe Long 4 & 3

Jack Gaunt defeated Mitch Waite 2 up

Liam Phipps lost 2 & 1 to Sam Fernley

James Reeson lost 2 down to Harry Mitchell

At this point the match was all square, and a tight finish lay ahead
however, Martin Anderson defeated Chris Fleming by 2 & 1

Richard Sadler won against Tom Trowbridge by 3 & 1

& James Sadler defeated Rob MacGregor by 3 & 2 putting the trophy in the hands of the Midlands before the tail wagged for the SWCGA with closings wins for

Jack Charman defeating Matt Hogg by 2 up

Ben Amor winning against Henry Young-Alls by 2 & 1

This closely contested match resulted in an 8 to 7 victory for the hosts.
