Seniors Championship 2023

The 2023 Seniors Amateur Championships took place at Newquay GC which was presented to the players in tip top condition.

SW Amateur Seniors Championship

The first round was played in great spirit and the scoring was very close amoung the field.  Dorset's Phil Bill had the best round of the day with a fine level par 69 with over 30 of the field within 5 shots of that score.  It was a really close competition and wide open for anyone to come through in the final round. Todd Sothcott had a fine second round 70 to take the clubhouse lead on 4 over with team mate Ashley Beckett back one on plus 5.  The cornish players all seemed to be bettering thier first round scores as was the case with Simon Knowles Perranporth who had the best round of the day with a fine level par 69 to take him to the top of the leaderboard on a total of 140 just two over. Last years winner slipped down the field with a 75 and when Phil Bill came home with 74 the SW Crown went to Simon.

Congratulations to Simon Knowles winner of the Leonard Lake Trophy and 2023 SW Seniors Amateur Champion.

EG SENIOR COUNTY FINAL - QUALIFIER

The South West Group Qualifying Competition for the England Golf Seniors County Finals to be played at Thorpeness Golf Club Suffolk was one of the a closest team competitions we have had for many years with 5 Counties all going into day two with a chance of picking up the honours.  Dorset lead after the first day and whilst they made some ground it was the Cornish  men who picked up the pace and made the best of the glourous conditions and excellent course to take the title by 6 shots from Dorset with last years winners wiltshire back in third. So Cornwall will represent the SW at this year's EG Seniors County Finals and we all wish them the very best.
