2024 is the Centenary of the South western Counties and we started this years event with a buffet dinner on the Saturday in celebration. Both the President and CEO of England Golf attended and a good evening was had by all with England Golf presenting the SW with a memento of the achievement. The SWCGA presened both England Golf and the club with a Centenary Plaque
The 2024 South West Week was hosted by East Devon GC which was in tremendous condition and provided all with a great venue for the weeks golf.
The weather was cold and Sunny except Thursday when the wind proved to be a huge challenge. Rob MacGregor took the honours in the morning round of the Amatuer Championship with a fine 68 two under one shot ahead of Gloucestershire's Nick Day. Nick went on to card a 68 for his second round to give hime a 3 under par total of 137 and the Amateur Championship a very worthy Champions and only player to finish under par for the Championship. Gloucester's Matt Bell had a great second round 69 to take the Runners up slot on count back from Somerset's Andrew Isaacs both on 141.
All the results are available to view on the side bar.
Milan Reed Gloucetershire
The Youths Championship was won by Gloucestershire's Milan Reed who shot a fine 71-71 142 two shots better than Cornwall's Tom Stephens.
This was a real battle between last years winners Gloucestershire and Cornwall. Cornwall led by eight shots after the first round but credit to Gloucestershire who really turned it around in the afternoon to win by eight shots overall.
Our congratulations to Gary Ward and his team who will go to the English County Finals at Whittington Heath GC 27-29 Sep to try and get back the title.
The Inter-Counties Match Play Shield was again very keenly contested. Devon took full advantage of being on a home course and won all their matches to take the Match Play Shield from Wiltshire who finished second.
This was very keenly contested and ended with Devon's Jay Scott taking it on 8.5 one clear of Wiltshires Ellis Bright.
