Seniors Championship 2025

Matt Stanford Gloucestershire 2025 Seniors Champion

The 2025 Seniors Amateur Championships took place at Minehead GC which was presented to the players in tip top condition and with the wind proved to be a great challenge for the competitors.

SW Amateur Seniors Championship

The first round was played in good spirit and for some the scoring proved difficult with defending champion Ian Veale fighting hard to come home in 79.  New to the Championship this year was Gloucesters Matt Stanford who came home with 73 and callled it saying there would be lower.  T was the case as Devons Paul Newcombe, Dorsets Gary Earl, Wiltshires Steve Ballard and Cornwalls Ian Ashenden all came in level par. Cornwalls Guy Norris then took the lead with a fine 2 under 70 but the day belonged to Wiltshires Simon Dymoke and Somersets Jon Atkins both finishing on 3 under 69s.  So to the next morning and again the breeze was up at times making it a fair test for all.  Matt Stanford had a great 4 under par round of 68 to put him at the top of the leaderboard awaining the late starters to come in.  Cornwalls Ian Ashenden has a fine 73 to put hin in to second slot on one over.  The ever consist Mark Snape had another 73 to sit in third place on two over.  The final groups could match the scores in with Guy Norris 4 over to finish two over and both Jon and Simon couldn't find their first round form and slipped down the leaderboard allowing Matt to take the Title on his first attempt the only player to fininsh under par.

Congratulations to Matt on winning the Leonard Lake Trophy to become the

SWCGA Seniors Amateur Champion.
