Boys Amateur Championship 2016

Bristol & Clifton Golf Club hosted the 2016 South Western Counties Golf Association South West Boys Amateur Championship on a mainly dry and bright day with very little wind, providing a supeb course in ideal golfing conditions.

The field of fifty-three competitors played thirty-six holes over this beautifully mature and undulating parkland course that measures 6,413 yards with a par of 70, offering a varied and beguilling test for all golfers.

The morning round produced a course record equalling round from Harrison Ottley-Woodd (Gloucestershire) of Cotswold Hills Golf Club with a 64, a clear six shots ahead of his nearest rival Jake Bolton (Wiltshire) - Ogbourne Downs Golf Club on 70, with George Bryant (Devon) and Kobe Adams (Somerset) a further shot back on 71.

William Lewis (Gloucestershire) - Long Ashton Golf Club recorded his first Hole-in-One at the 130 yard 7th Hole.

The afternoon round saw Taylor Stote (Somerset) the 2015 Individual Champion returning a score of 66, closely followed by Thomas Plumb (Dorset), and Jake Bolton (Wiltshire) on one shot behind on 67.

The South Western Counties Amateur Boys Champion was Jake Bolton (Wiltshire) with his two rounds of 70 + 67 giving him a 137 Total and a four stroke victory over the runner-up Taylor Stote (Somerset), with his rounds of 75 + 66 giving him a 36 hole total of 141.

The Team Championship and Qualifying Round for the English Boys County Finals to be played at Cumberwell Park Golf Club on 23rd to 25th August 2016 was won for the third year running by Wiltshire represented by:

 

Jake Bolton, Dom Burgess, James Cooper, Jamie Cooper, Max Mulcock & Tom Stagg.

Their team manager is Ian Welding. Their score of 721 gave them a sixteen shot winning margin over the runners-up Dorset, again for the third year in succession, represented by:-

George Carroll, Bradley Cox, Sean Dimmick, Adam Harris, Thomas Plumb and Callum Ward.
