A great week of golf in some testing windy conditions produced a fine win by the home County Somerset who recorded four wins from their five matches
Runners-Up were Wiltshire, closely followed by Cornwall.
The Clifford Burden Trophy was won by Lee James (Dorset) who despite being unable to play on the final day because of illness recorded 7.5 points from the weeks matches. He narrowly edged out Jake Bolton who although also scoring 7.5 points lost out on holes-up count-back.
On a glorious day at Weston-super-Mare Golf Club a maximum field of seventy-two competitors played some sparkling golf, with no fewer than three holes-in-one recorded on the day by:-
Jamie Clare (Long Sutton Golf Club), in the morning round, at the 11th hole, followed by Will Poole (Mendip Spring Golf Club) at the 16th and Bradley Scott (Tiverton) at the 11th in the afternoon round.
The eventual winner, Will Poole (Mendip Spring Golf Club - Somerset) led throughout the day with a morning round of 65 followed by another 65 in the afternoon round for a winning score of 130.
This secured a narrow one stroke winning margin from runner-up Sam Sloman from Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club with rounds of 65 + 66 = 131.
A further three shots back were Harry Hall (West Cornwall Golf Club) and Dan Sheehan (Knowle Golf Club) on 134.
Harry Hall (West Cornwall Golf Club) retained the trophy he won last year at St Enodoc Golf Club with his rounds of 68 + 66 = 134 winning on count-back from Dan Sheehan (Knowle Golf Club) 66 + 68 = 134.
Two shots further back was Thomas Plumb (Sherborne Golf Club) with rounds of 65 + 71 totalling 136.
Somerset, the home County were victorious with a fine team score of 825 recording a 19 shot victory over runners-up Gloucestershire on 844.
Jamie Clare (135), Sam Fernley (142), Josh Hilleard (138) Will Poole (130), Tom Sloman (137) and Phil White (143) taking Somerset through to the English County Finals to be held at Trevose Golf Club from 29th September to 1st October 2017
