The 2022 South West Week was hosted by Minchinhampton GC which was in tremendous condition and provided all with a great venue for the weeks golf.
The weather was very kind throughout apart from the Tuesday morning when we arrived to find the course blanketed with fog. Still it did lift and we had a great day for our South Western Counties Amateur Championship which saw the course record broken twice. After the 36 holes we had a three way tie and duly went out for the playoff between Nick Day, Craig Passmore and Joe Retford. It was a closely fought playoff Nick took a one shot lead on the first playoff hole and held on to that for the remaining two holes thus becoming the 2022 SW Amateur Champion. Craig & Joe continued to decide the Youths Championship which Craig took with a fine Birdie on the fourth hole.
Joes consolation was his fine 61 (-9) setting a new Amateur Course Record.
All the results are available to view on the side bar.
The Gloucestershire team once more dominated the team event and finished some 20 shots clear of runners up Devon. Our congratulations to Gary Ward and his team who will go to the English County Finals at Royal Norwich to defend their title which was won at Remedy Oak last year.
The Inter-Counties Match Play Shield was again very keenly contested and after a very disappointing Tuesday for Somerset they pushed hard during the remaining matches to maintain their unbeaten run throughout the week to take the match play shield.
This was very keenly contested and ended with a countback situation between Devon's Matt Millar and Craig Passmore with Matt winning by one.
